A church near Cockermouth will be celebrating 150 years of worship this weekend with a flower festival.

St Margaret’s Church, at Wythop, will also offer teas and coffees in the nearby vicarage.

There will be 12 flower displays, arranged inside and outside the church.

The theme is Steps Through Time, with the displays illustrating aspects of valley life over the years, including farming, the railways and old chapel.

They will be created by a band of volunteers, including Keswick Flower Club and Alison Herd, of Embleton.

The festival opened at noon today and will run until 5pm, tomorrow it will be open from 10.30am to 5pm, and on Sunday, from noon to 5pm.

At 10.30am on Sunday there will be a church service.

Church member Christine Leitch said: “Lots of people will be involved.

“It should all look wonderful and is a great opportunity for us to share our lovely little church with others.”
