A charity gala day will be held in Maryport Rugby Club on Mealpot Road on July 24.

Owl Blue, the local charity that helps children, promotes health campaigns and runs a make a wish project, will be making a lot of families happy with this event.

There will live entertainment from Bailey & Kream and Friends, and Jenia.

Clip 'n' Climb will be there along with donkey rides, an owl and mini zoo display, bouncy castles and slide, small fair rides, magicians and entertainment from Imagination Parties.

The ever popular Zorb balls will be there. There is a chance to prepare for Euro 2020 with a penalty shoot out game.

The Lake District Coastal Aquarium's touch pool will be there along with a tombola stall, ice-cream van and the Purple Lunch Box for refreshments.

Owl Blue was founded by Maryport man Stuart McDougall.

The charity began life as Asante Sana, the Swahili words for "thank you very much" after Stuart visited Tanzania.

He said he changed the name because it was causing too much confusion and people were not sure what work the charity did.

He added: "We changed the name to Owl Blue. It was just random but we thought it sounded good. We wanted to change it now before we got too big, so to speak."

Owl Blue has helped families of children with health problems and run campaigns to highlight those problems and how to identify or prevent them.

At the moment Stuart is planning a training day or people dealing with autism, which will be led by national experts.

The charity has also helped children from as far away as Manchester to achieve a special wish.

Owl Blue is funded by a charity shop in Maryport.

Stuart and his wife Nichola run the shop and administer the charity from the same site.

Stuart said: "Nichola is the only person in Owl Blue who receives a wage. I have a pap testing business which I do to get buy – usually working it around whatever is happening with Owl Blue."

He said the fun day does not raise a huge amount of money for the charity.

He added: "It is costly to run but if we make a small profit it gives families a fun day out."

Entry to the fun day is £2 for adults. Children are free.

The gala day will be held on Sunday, July 24, from 1pm to 4pm.
