A two-year-old Maryport girl has been airlifted to hospital and a man has suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision near Cockermouth.
The girl was flown to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital after a United Utilities tanker and a BMW collided on the A66 between Cockermouth and Embleton.
The 22-year-old man, of Maryport, who was driving the BMW has been airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Police described his injuries as life-threatening and the two-year-old was said to be serious but stable.
A 60-year-old man, of Gosforth, who was driving the van has been treated at the scene.
The A66 has been closed from the Oakhurst roundabout to Dubwath.
Police were called at 2.10pm.
The road remains closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
