The future of Workington and District Civic Trust is at risk because it does not have enough committee members.

The trust is to propose the dissolution of the group at its annual general meeting on Thursday, October 15.

Pat Hall, chairman, said: "Now there's 10 of us instead of the 25 that are needed and there's only so much that we can take on.

"We look after the benefit of Workington, the buildings at risk, the ones in need to repair and we are consulted on planning applications, hold events and give talks. There are 1,100 listed buildings in Allerdale.

"Anyone with an interest in the town can get involved."

The group is appealing for people to attend the AGM at the town's Helena Thompson Museum at 7pm and join the executive committee.

JMercia Haughan, vice-president, said: "We have been going for 15 years and we've had a lot of successes. As it happens in many organisations, the ages are going higher and it's difficult to get younger people interested. We need more help."

Anyone interested in getting involved with the trust can call Mrs Haughan on 01900 62737.
