A month-long exhibition by Cockermouth Heritage Group will finish at the end of next week.
The showcase, which runs daily at The Kirkgate until Saturday, August 26, allows visitors a peep inside the Heritage Group's store, discovering some of the items and their significance in Cockermouth's history.
The group is part of Kirkgate Arts, researching and recording all aspects of the town’s history and that of the surrounding area. It has amassed a sizeable collection of old photographs and items.
The collection gives a fascinating insight into the themes of people and place, work and culture and encompasses a wide range of local social and economic history from the late 19th century to the mid 20th century.
Items on show will include toys created by former German prisoners of war at Moota Camp, near Cockermouth, during the Second World War. There will also be a chance to view items from Fairfield School, dating back more than 140 years, items from the railway, Mechanics Band, and much more.
