New noticeboards have been installed at a village hall near Cockermouth in an effort to get more people involved in community activities.

The boards, installed by Loweswater Parish Council, were unveiled last Thursday.

They have been funded by Allerdale Borough Council, Lake District National Park Authority, the Melbreak Communities Group and the Big Lottery ‘Awards for All’ Fund. Parish and borough councillors attended.

David Smith, clerk to the parish council, said: "The new noticeboards should last a good 20 years and will be of real benefit to both the Parish Council and the numerous community groups that use them to promote their activities.

"Without the financial support of Allerdale Borough Council, together with our other funders, a small Parish Council such as Loweswater would not have been able to deliver this project that will benefit the whole community."
