The authority’s executive committee met privately last week to discuss the matter. A spokeman said councillors had authorised staff to “continue with the negotiations in relation to the legal proceedings to reach a settlement”.
Very little information has been disclosed about what went on behind closed doors.
The spokesman would not give any details about what the legal proceedings were, stating that the information related to the “financial or business affairs” of the authority and the public interest in withholding the information outweighed the public interest in disclosing it.
Park Safe (Systems) Limited, known as Parksafe, took on the running of the three-storey car park on the council’s behalf when it opened 10 years ago. At the time it was said to be the safest car park in the country with the company guaranteeing a vehicle’s security once it was parked.
The 250-space park features steel doors, a unique bar code security system and sensors which can tell if any vehicle is moved without permission.
Parksafe could not be contacted for comment.
