Five areas of county council land in West Cumbria, including the site of a former Workington school, have gone up for sale.

The site of the former Garth School in Salterbeck is among the areas that have been deemed surplus to requirements by the authority.

The 2.8-acre brownfield development site is on the market with Mitchells Land Agency in Cockermouth with a guide price of £100,000.

Also for sale is the site of the former Flimby Lodge site next to the A596 junction with Ryehill Road.

The 4.4-acre site has been identified by Allerdale council as potential housing land in the local plan and has a £300,000 guide price.

The former Blooming Heather landfill site at Broughton Moor is also up for sale.

The 27-acre site off the unnamed road leading from Broughton Moor to the A594 is now agricultural land and woodland and has a guide price of £45,000.

Just over 8.6 acres of woodland and grassland behind Edinburgh Road on the southern edge of Ewanrigg, Maryport, is also on the market with a £10,000 guide price.

They are for sale alongside a 0.7-acre amenity or development site in Hensingham, which has a £10,000 guide price.

A council spokesman said the sales were part of the council's property rationalisation programme and proceeds would go into general capital funds.
