A Land Rover and a coach carrying a rugby team were in collision near Keswick, prompting closure of the A66.
It happened between the B5322 Station Road and the A591 on Saturday evening.
The coach was carrying players and staff from De La Salle Rugby Union club in Greater Manchester, who had been playing at Whitehaven.
Stephen Parrott, De La Salle club fixture secretary, said: “Our head coach was taken to hospital with head injuries. With everybody else it was more cuts and bruises.”
