Daily overnight road closures on the A66 in West Cumbria are set to end this week.

For more than a month the road has been closed from 8pm to 6am at Bridgefoot to allow maintenance to be carried out at Marron Bridge.

A Highways England spokesman said full overnight closures would finish at 6am on Thursday.

Some adhoc overnight closures will still be needed until completion of the work, which is scheduled for April 9.

Temporary 30mph and 40mph speed limits and speed camera are in place at the roadworks site while the road is open. They will remain until the work has finished.

Elsewhere, the current phase of flood-resilience work on the A66 at Bassenthwaite Lake is also coming to an end. Overnight road closures are due to remain there until next Friday.

Workmen are set to move to the final phase of work on that project, which is set to take place at Thornthwaite, tomorrow. Work there is due to last until May.

Off-peak traffic lights will be in place at the Embleton end of Bassenthwaite Lake from Monday while traffic islands are installed.
