The Big Allerdale Switch is on again – an opportunity for hundreds to save money on their energy bills.

Allerdale council is again running its popular energy supplier switching scheme, a collective scheme which brings groups of householders together to buy their gas and energy and save money.

The council has previously run the scheme in the winter months. However, it is rolling it out at different times now to enable more to join when their contracts are up for renewal.

At the last auction, held in February this year, householders saved an average of £272 on their annual energy costs.

Head of housing, Graeme Wilson, said: “I’m really pleased that we can offer the scheme at a different time of the year as people can be tied into contracts which meant they couldn’t switch when we did the scheme before. Hopefully those householders will be able to make use of the scheme this time round.”

Anyone wishing to join the scheme should go online to www.allerdale.gov.uk/warmhomes by May 16 and follow the links. Full details of past energy consumption and current supplier is needed to sign up.
