Vehicles of all shapes and sizes as well as lots more entertainment was on offer at an annual family fun day organised by Cockermouth Rotary Club.

About 1,500 people headed to the James Walker factory site and next-door Deer Orchard football field on Sunday for Touch a Truck.

The event raised about £3,000 for a variety of local causes.

Rotarian Joe Fagan said: "We were a bit concerned at first as there was a little bit of drizzle but then the sun came out and the crowds kept coming, it was fantastic."

There were more than 30 exhibitors, including local hauliers and the emergency services.

"We had everything from Aston Martins and vintage tractors, to farming equipment and the Boogie Bus," said Joe.

"It appealed to everyone, from age two to 82. All the exhibitors were absolutely brilliant, they support us very well.

"The children's entertainment was also really popular, it was great to see the whole place so busy."

New for this year were army and sea cadets from Maryport.

"It was a great way for them to make contact with lots of people," said Joe.

This is the fifth Touch a Truck event staged. The rotary club had initially thought they would run them every two years.

"They are so popular we decided to make it an annual event," said Joe.

"It's one of the main family events in the town calendar and just seems to get bigger and better each year.

"Exhibitors are already looking forward to next year.

"We were starting to organise next year's event that evening. We were so encouraged by everyone's enthusiasm and want this to continue for many years."
