The latest playground craze prompted a West Cumbrian shop to bring in more staff to help deal with increased number of customers.

Fidget spinners, propeller-shaped gadgets with ball bearings that allow them to spin, are increasingly popular and Richard James newsagent, on Finkle Street, Workington, sold out its stock in less than 24 hours.

Tracy Robinson, manager, said: "It's unbelievable, every now and again a new craze comes along but this time we sold out on Friday morning stock that arrived in on Thursday.

"We get desperate parents coming in and asking when the next lot is coming in.
"The phone never stops ringing and we've had to get extra staff in.

"We're a busy shop anyway, but it's getting busier because of the fidget spinners."

The shop only started stocking the item on Tuesday and has so far sold 1,650 fidget spinners.

Tracy said: "They just sell out in no time, we've been told now that new ones with flashy lights should become available soon.

"It's created such a buzz, I don't know why to took off like this but the shop is full of parents and grandparents asking for them for their children."
