Firefighters from eight stations across Cumbria tackled a fire in an outbuilding where 200 straw bales are alight.

Fire engines from Workington, Aspatria, Cockermouth, Wigton, Carlisle west, Penrith stations and an aerial ladder from Carlisle east were called to the fire just after 7pm.

Six pumps are on the scene as well as a water bowser, which can hold large quantities of water.

The fire is in a 20m by 50m outbuilding in the village of Langrigg, near Aspatria.

A firefighter said: "There were around 200 bail stacks set alight, we don't know the cause yet but we've been at work since around 7pm to keep it under control.

"It's a barn fire and it involved just one building."

At 9.30pm the firefighter said the barn was just steaming and it would take another couple of hours before the fire would be extinguished completely.

An eyewitness earlier said that the barn's roof had fallen down and the flames were really high.
