Flimby and Maryport flood victims are being urged to apply for financial help.

A drop-in centre has been set up in Flimby because of concern at the low number of eligible people who have applied for available grants.

Denise Rollo, Allerdale council's senior development officer, has been visiting Flimby Community Centre on West Lane from 10am to noon on Wednesdays and Fridays to advise people what they can claim and to help fill out application forms.

She said she had people queuing to see her when she began last Friday.

Maryport town councillor Peter Kendall highlighted the need for people to apply and urged them to use Mrs Rollo's services.

Flood relief includes £500 for every flooded household , flood resilience grants of up to £5,000, a council tax relief scheme for flood properties and funding for households via Cumbria Community Foundation.
