Cockermouth and District Agricultural Society will hold its 166th show tomorrow.

Thousands of people are expected at the annual show at The Fitz, on Low Road.

Hundreds of livestock entries have been received and there are more trade stands than ever.

Show secretary Norma Boyes, who has been involved in the event for more than 50 years, said: “We have had over 100 cattle entries and more than 800 sheep.

“The poultry numbers are also good and we’ll have at least 25 goats. There will be lots going on in the horse ring too.

“We have got more trade stands than ever.”

There will be entertainment for all the family, with Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, vintage machinery and vehicles, woodturning, sheep shearing, meerkats, farrier displays and terrier racing.

New for this year will be a demonstration by Cockermouth Beekeepers’ Association.

Also making their first appearance at the show are Cockermouth Ukuleles, who will be playing at different times throughout the day.

A free park-and ride service is available for motorists to leave their vehicles at the Lakeland Livestock Centre just off the A66.

There will also be a shuttle bus service, from Cockermouth Main Street to the show field, from 10am.

The horse events, including show jumping, will start at 9am, there will be lots of different competitions throughout the morning and early afternoon. The winners will then take part in a grand parade at about 2.15pm.

Admission is free for under-fives and there is a special family rate of £20 for up to two adults and two children. Admission for adults is £7 and for children aged five to 16. For OAPs it is £5.
