Jo Whiley will lead a party in the paddock at Carlisle Racecourse's most stylish meeting of the year.

The radio star will perform a special post-race DJ set as part of the city track's Ladies Day on Monday, August 7.

She's the second big name to confirm a performance at racecourse this year, following singer Jess Glynne who will stage an outdoor gig in July.

And the Radio 2 presenter said: "This is going to be a fantastic day at Carlisle Racecourse.

"I always love DJ'ing at race meetings as the crowds are always in a great mood after a day's superb action on the track."

Ladies Day - dubbed #AmazingMonday - is one of the venue's highlights of the year and of Cumbria's social calendar.

It's certainly the track's most glamorous date, with many of the women in the thousands-strong crowd dressed in their finest.

On the track, it features the world's only all-female jockey meeting.

Bosses say the day will ooze "style, glamour and fun" - and Whiley's looking forward to it too.

“Carlisle is a wonderful city and Carlisle Racecourse is at the forefront of supporting and celebrating women in racing so I cannot wait for August 7 – it is going to be such a big party,” the former Radio 1 presenter added.

Ladies Day at Carlisle is in its seventh year.

Racecourse general manager Geraldine McKay said: “#AmazingMonday is one of the highlights of our race calendar both in terms of the action on the track and the atmosphere in the stands and around the course.

“We are delighted to announce Jo Whiley will be the star of our Party In The Paddock. Jo is not only one of our top national broadcasters, but a true champion of women in music.

“Given the ethos of #AmazingMonday, which is to celebrate, empower and promote women in racing, we believe Jo is the perfect choice to lead our post-race Party In The Paddock.”

The meeting includes the Jockey Club North West Development Award for female jockeys.

It is presented to the jockey who rides a winner at #AmazingMonday and then goes on to win the Ladies’ Trophy Handicap Stakes at Haydock Park.

That £20,000 bounty was last year won by Penrith jockey Emmay Sayer.

Geraldine added: “Carlisle is proud to be at the forefront of supporting female jockeys with #AmazingMonday – the only raceday in the world that has a female-only card."

Tickets for #AmazingMonday go on sale at 9am tomorrow. There will be a limited time offer of £15 for entry, £10 off the normal gate admission.
