Eight weeks of work to improve Keswick's gas mains is set to begin in August.

Northern Gas Networks will replace metal pipelines with plastic pipes.

Work is set to begin on Greta Side for two weeks from August 31, followed by two weeks on Brewery Lane.

A phased road closure will be in place during this time.

Work will then move to Victoria Street, on the main route through the town, in October for four weeks.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place.

A second phase of work is planned in the new year, when part of Victoria Street will be closed for about a week.

Access will be maintained for the Bell Close and Otley Road car parks during that time.

The work has been times to avoid busy periods in the town.

The company will visit customers and businesses affected by the work to address any concerns.

Parking will be provided in Otley Road car park for residents who cannot park outside their homes during the work.

Community forums will be held for residents before and during the project.

Anyone with questions about the work can contact Northern Gas Networks on 0800 040 7766, option seven.
