One of the longest-running agricultural shows in the county is set to take place this weekend.

The annual Cockermouth Show, which was first held in 1849, will take place on Saturday, and features all the traditional animal classes alongside a line-up of entertainment spread across the site.

Held at the showground at The Fitz, in Low Road, it promises to be an action-packed day for all the family, where visitors can view cattle, sheep, goats, horses, poultry - even ostriches - sheepdogs, foxhounds, terriers, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, horse jumping, new and vintage machinery, and crafts throughout the day.

The show opens at 9am, and some of the highlights throughout the day include: show jumping from 9am; the dog show and terrier racing from 12.30pm; Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling at 1pm; and the Grand Parade at 2.30pm.

Some of the more unusual events on the programme include a beekeeping demonstration, ferret racing, ridden fancy dress, and bubble football.

Food and refreshments will also be on sale and there will be a beer tent serving throughout the day.

Shuttle buses are available from Lakeland Livestock Centre - where there will be a Park and Ride scheme - and Main Street from 10am.

Tickets are available on the day.
