Plans have been lodged to expand facilities at Maryport Marina.
Maryport Harbour and Marina Ltd has applied for planning permission to extend its premises to include a meeting room which could also be used for socialising and holding small functions.
The room would have its own external access, independent of the marina offices, so could be used when needed.
Maryport Yachting Association has been fighting for a yacht club for several years, since the marina administration moved into its offices on the harbourside.
Pauline Gorley, marina chief executive, said at the time the existing harbour board had not felt there was the opportunity to create such a space.
"Now it has become possible and this will be a place where people using the marina can relax and socialise," she said.
Chris Egan, Maryport Yachting Association commodore, said the group would still have liked a space for the dedicated use of the yachting association, but he welcomed what he called "a move in the right direction".
