A man spent a night in a bothy above Buttermere after injuring his ankle on Haystacks at the weekend.
Friends of the 50-year-old carried on to Honister where they raised the alarm.
Rescuers stretchered the man down to Gatesgarth Farm on Saturday and his friends took him to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
