A new play area in Workington has officially opened.
The £25,000 project at Moorclose was funded by Workington Town council.
The site, off Lady Court, was opened by the town mayor Joan Wright today.
Children from St Gregory's school attended the opening event.
Councillor Wright said: "It's been a much awaited project and I'm delighted it's finally open.
"It took a lot of time to secure the money but this is an important facility for the children in Moorclose, especially because the sports centre is about to close and this is one of the biggest areas of Workington."
The leisure centre on Newlands Lane is due to close when the new £11.5 million sports centre opens at The Cloffocks later this summer.
Stephen Stoddart, town and borough councillor and secretary of Moorclose Residents' Group, said: "It's great to see the children playing in the new space that has been created for them.
"It's been a three-year wait and it's absolutely fantastic that something has been done for the kids."
