Passengers travelling on Keswick Launch's circular lake cruises will be able to board boats at the Lingholm estate for the first time with the construction of a new jetty at Derwentwater.

Work is under way for the new walkway, the first on the body water in more than 50 years.

Keswick Launch is planning to add the extra stop on its cruises this summer in time for the school summer holidays.

Passengers will be able to get on and off regular services which run up to eight times a day during the summer.

The Lingholm jetty coincides with the creation of a new café, shop and Victorian walled garden on the estate which will open this summer.

Keswick Launch started offering boat trips again during the February half-term holiday after making a recovery from December's devastating floods.

Douglas Hodgson, co-owner of Keswick Launch, said: "This will be the first new jetty on the lake in many decades, so it is a special moment for Derwentwater and adds something genuinely new for visitors."

The new Lingholm jetty is expected to open for public sailings from mid-July.
