A music festival's application for a premises licence is being challenged after one organisation objected to it and another declined to support it.

Party in the Valley is the brainchild of Ben Henderson and Mat Emery and is due to run from Friday, September 25, to Sunday, September 27.

Organisers have applied to Allerdale council for a premises licence and Mr Emery will defend his application at a licensing panel on Wednesday.

Derwent Parish Council has strongly objected because of fears about drug use, traffic and parking issues and loud music causing nuisance to residents and visitors.

Environmental Health also said it could not support the application due to concerns about prevention of nuisance and public safety, but felt the concerns could be addressed at the licensing panel.

Mr Emery said: "What's happened is that there's been an objection from somebody but it's not a private individual.

"We've met with Allerdale and the concerns that they have couldn't be resolved on the day because they weren't speaking for one individual.

"The council have advised us that they have to follow through with it.

"We have a temporary event notice so it doesn't affect the festival as such.

"It's something we could have done without but I don't know any festival that doesn't deal with this, really it is about easing people's concerns."

It is not known who has objected to the plans as the council documents are restricted.

The event began in 2012 as Oktoberfest but will be held in a new format this year.

Gentleman's Dub Club, Pikey Beats, Kazo and The Tribe are just some of the names lined up for the festival.
