Town events and groups could have their names up in lights in Workington if planning permission is granted for a new matrix sign.

Workington Town Council has submitted plans to Allerdale council for a sign that would be put up on the corner of Washington Street near HSBC.

It would promote events and cost about £5,000.

Chris Bagshaw, town clerk, said the town council would also like to put up another matrix sign in The Hub.

He said: “Having something permanent would be a good method of ensuring people know what’s going on.”
