The speed limit on a stretch of the A595 could be reduced to 40mph to make a pedestrian crossing usable.

A Cumbria County Council traffic order to reduce the speed limit to 50mph between Dobies roundabout and its junction with Jubilee Road, at Lillyhall, will be considered by Allerdale's local committee on Wednesday.

The reduction would improve pedestrian safety at the crossing, which was installed last year for people to walk or cycle between the Energy Coast University Technical College and Lakes College.

Students at the UTC travel between the sites to use the construction training centre and sport facilities at Lakes College, including the new 3G pitch.
