Aspatria Town Council will look into the lack of lighting in Harriston after reports that children were afraid of walking home on dark nights.
Taxi driver Phillip Thomson told councillors one street light was blown down and never replaced and another on an electricity pole was removed.
He said there was a stretch of very narrow paving where it was impossible to see even a couple of yards ahead.
He added: "You only know someone is coming the other way when you bump into them."
The council has agreed to look into the matter once more to try and find a solution.
