Paw Patrol’s character Chase opened the revamped facility at Wordsworth View, Salterbeck, yesterday.
The TV puppy helped town mayor Joan Wright cut the ribbon of the £45,000 play area.
Councillor Wright said: "This is a very important facility for the children in Salterbeck.
"It’s the town council’s policy to upgrade as many parks and play areas in its patch.
"I’m sure this will be well used, you can tell by the number of people that
came for the opening.
"I want children to be able to enjoy these parks and play facilities."
The revamped play area, near the estate’s Oval Centre, features swings, a climbing frame and a dish roundabout.
The project was funded by Wren, which gave £33,748 towards play equipment and renovation of the play court.
Workington Town council has contributed £12,500 and Impact Housing and Salterbeck Residents Association have put £2,150 towards the project.
Lillian Baldry, chairman of the residents association, said: "The opening has been a big success.
"This play area was very much needed.
"The one we had before got old but was very well used.
"Now we have something better with brand new equipment."
Theresa Little, of Impact, said: "As part of our community plan we work towards providing these parks.
"In Salterbeck we have this one, the one that was opened last year on Walker Road and we’re hoping to create a play area for older children on Garnett Crescent."
Amy Johnson, events officer at the town council, said: "I’m really happy with today’s turnout.
"It’s important for communities to have somewhere safe for children to play."
