A Cockermouth town centre venue has been refurbished since the floods and is available to rent.

Victoria Hall, off High Sand Lane, has been leased to Age UK for the past four years.

It was badly flooded in December, forcing Age UK to move to alternative premises on Main Street, which the charity has since decided to stay in.

There was more than two feet of water in the venue, which is owned by the town council.

Sheila Brown, town council clerk, said: "The refurbishment is almost finished.

"We have put in a new heating system and flooring and renewed the kitchen units. We had to rip up the carpets, chip off the plaster, replace it and tank the walls."

The hall, which has disabled access, has a kitchen, toilets and main meeting room on the ground floor. The upper floor can be used for storage.

"We are looking for a third party to lease the hall to," said Mrs Brown, who can be contacted at the town hall or on 01900 821869.
