Workington's Paint the Town Red festival raised more than £8,000 for charity.

Most of the money will be split between the Mayor of Workington’s Charity (Myeloma UK), the renal unit at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, Cancer Research UK and Workington Rotary.

Smaller donations have been made to organisations such as the Theatre Royal's Second Star Youth Theatre.

The event, on June 4, featured a host of music and street entertainment and was organised by the town council, Workington Rotary and a team of volunteers.

Town mayor Joan Wright said: "We would like to thank the people of Workington and our festival sponsors for their wonderful generosity and support for this event.

"We are delighted that the event has allowed us to fundraise for such important charitable organisations."
