Twenty two people who suffer from Alzheimers will be given homemade twiddle muffs which were entered into a new class at Loweswater Show.

Chairman of the show's industrial section, Alison Hewitson, came up with the idea and was delighted with the response.

"So many families are affected by Alzheimers. These muffs, which are decorated on the outside and inside with different textures, not only keep their hands warm but also give them something to fiddle with as they often have restless hands," said Mrs Hewitson.

"I was suprised at how many entries we had and delighted with the support."

Most of the colourful twiddle muffs were knitted, some were crocheted. "I enjoyed making mine, I will probably make more," said Mrs Hewitson.
