Tigger would approve of a Cockermouth school's latest fundraising drive - a sponsored bounceathon.

Pupils - and some teachers - had lots of fun taking their turn on the bouncy castle at All Saints' School on Monday.

The Home School Association came up with the idea. They need to raise £20,000 to pay for a new adventure playground, about £10,000 has been raised so far.

Headteacher Nicola Smallwood said: "Each class took their turn, everyone had a chance to bounce, it caused great excitement.

"The children absolutely loved it, some of the teachers joined in too."

The 200-pupil school on Slatefell Drive had an adventure playground for 20 years. Due to wear and tear it had to be cordoned off in January.

It was removed during the summer holidays and the groundwork done in preparation for a new one which they would like to have in place before Easter.

The plan is to build a climbing frame, monkey bars and possible some rope swings, as well as a soft play area.

"The children loved the adventure playground and really miss it. It has lots of equipment and is great for social interaction, building strength and stamina," said Mrs Smallwood.

"The plans have not been finalised yet. The school council will make the decision."

The school will be holding a fundraising ceilidh at Lorton Street Methodist Church on Friday, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from the school.

Earlier in the year pupils took to the fells to boost the playground funds. There were various sponsored walks staged, including up Haystacks, near Buttermere, Catbells, near Keswick, and round Buttermere.

They also held a fundraising concert in All Saints' Church and summer fair in June.
