Delayed work to complete the resurfacing of a West Cumbrian bridge is due to take place.

Surface dressing work as due to be carried out on Broughton Bridge over two days last week but the work was delayed because of the weather.

Workmen are now due to close the bridge from 9am.

A county council spokesman said the time had been chosen to minimise disruption.

The road was closed for resurfacing in January but was forced to remain shut for a month after a gas pipe that was too close to the surface became damaged.

It reopened in late February after the gas supply had been rerouted beneath the River Derwent and the bridge resurfaced.

Surface dressing could not be done then as the temperature was too low.

The planned work is weather dependent.
