A dangerous road was closed again this morning after a car hit a wall.

The accident blackspot, on the A596 at Castle Gardens in Workington, was shut for an hour at 6am after the car collided with the wall outside of Glyndale Kennels.

The owner of the kennels, John Hetherington, is once again calling on the county council to take action and put traffic calming measures in place.

He wants warning signs installed and the speed limit lowered from 60mph.

Mr Hetherington has campaigned for measures to be put in place for 10 years.

"The problem is getting worse," he said.

"I wish a lower speed limit could be introduced."

The wall outside of the kennels was only repaired last April, after a driver collided with it.

The speed limit was due to be lowered from 60mph to 40mph last year, but the process was delayed after a discrepancy was found in the legal order for the work.

The car, a Hyundai i20, was driven by a 26-year-old woman from Workington. She was uninjured in the incident.
