Almost 60 shops in Workington are taking part in Paint the Town Red next weekend.

Organisers are hoping more traders will get involved and help give the town a festival atmosphere on Saturday, June 4.

Shops including Butterflies Cafe, Marks & Spencer and The Collection are among the 57 traders going red for the event.

The theme can be anything red and some shops are also asking their staff to dress in red on the day.

Helen Fowler, one of the organisers, said: "The way this has been embraced by the retailers is amazing and a reflection of the esteem the festival is now held in.

"Their efforts will enhance the day and the its feel good factor."

Shops taking part also have the chance to win a prize.

The top three will be chosen on June 3 and notified on the day.

And festival-goers also have the chance to win Debenhams vouchers if they take part in the find the number competition.

Shops taking part in the window dressing competition will place a number in their display.

People who find the most numbers will be awarded £200-worth of vouchers. Second prize is £100 and third place is worth £50.

Entry forms are available at the Hub and Vulcan Park on the day of the festival.

Workington is gearing up for the day of family-friendly entertainment.

The event will bring live bands, walkabout artists, workshops and markets to venues around the town from 10am to 6pm.

The main stage will be located at Vulcan Park with bands such as The Lady And The Bad Dogz, The Jake Leg Jug Band, The Soul City Walkers and Mr Wilson's Second Liners.
