Workington is gearing up for the festive season with a two-day Winter Wonderland festival on November 28 and 29 to celebrate the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.

The town centre will be busy with a range of events and activities including a fairground, market, storytelling, free face painting and Santa’s grotto.

A giant snow globe photography booth will be set-up at the Coastline on Washington Street and festival-goers will be able to step inside and walk away with a free photograph.

The annual lantern parade will take place on Saturday November 28.

Starting from Pow Street, near Udale Street car park, the parade will set off at 5.15pm and finish in front on the main stage just in time for a special sing-along choir performance by pupils from local junior schools.

Town mayor Carole Armstrong, will switch on the lights at 6pm.

The entertainment continues on Sunday November 29 with music on the main stage including classic Merseybeat band The Fourmost, tribute act The Kommitments, and popular local band, The Verdict.

The festival is organised by Allerdale council and Workington Town Council, with support from Washington Square Shopping Centre.
