Land under Cockermouth Castle is being reinforced.
The floods last month triggered a landslide which washed away all the vegetation under the grade one listed building which overlooks the River Derwent.
Contractor Ian Cannon Ltd worked over the festive period to install rock armour to protect the base of the embankment from further flood and erosion damage.
A spokesman for Leconfield Estates, which owns Cockermouth Castle, said: "We are grateful to the contractors for their efforts over the festive period in achieving this.
"Further consideration is now been given to what further remedial works are required."
