Workington Bridge was closed for an hour-and-a-half last night as a 33-year-old man threatened to jump off it.
Police were called at 6pm at the bridge, also known as Calva Bridge, after concerns were raised for the welfare of a town man who was standing on the bridge.
Officers managed to talk to him and the man was taken for a health check-up.
The bridge reopened at around 7.30pm.
