They have been designed by Victor de Quincey, 72, of Bothel, who took up art three years ago.

The design features drawings of landmarks, including Wordsworth House, the Mayo statue, the Cocker and Gote bridges, Percy House Gallery and All Saints Church.

Mr de Quincey created the design after discussions with the town’s tourist information centre.

He said: “I have a love of the beautiful old buildings in Cockermouth and, because we have so many different properties, I tried to incorporate as many as I could.

“I started to do sketches of some of the buildings in the town and started building it up into something we could put on a tea towel.”

A local potter agreed to make the bone china mugs.

They are on sale at the tourist information centre in Old Kings Arms Lane.
