A gig to promote this year’s Maryport Blues Festival by singer Lucy Zirins will bring her back to her family’s roots.
Lucy, 19, lives in Burnley but has family connections to Cumbria – her mother Elaine is from Wigton and her father Ian is from Cockermouth.
She will play at the Crown Inn, in Senhouse Street, on April 1 as part of a series of gigs to promote and raise money for the festival.
Lucy said: “My family are from Cumbria so it will be really good to have them come along and watch me.
“I love coming to visit, it is a lot prettier than Burnley.
“It always makes me more nervous to play in front of people I know but it is nice to have friendly faces in the crowd.
“I played the Carlisle Blues Festival in 2010 and that was really good. Everyone up north seems to have a real love for it.”
Lucy was invited to perform at the festival last year but had other commitments, so she is excited to finally get the chance to be involved after hearing so much about the event.
She has been playing the guitar since she was 12 and started playing live when she was 15.
After finishing her A-levels she got a job but decided to concentrate on her music full-time and is now writing for and recording an album.
She said: “I am 19 and I should do it while I have got the luxury of not having bills to pay or a mortgage.
“I consider myself a singer/songwriter more than anything.
“I am influenced by everything; if it is a good song it doesn’t matter what genre it is.”
Lucy will play a mixture of original songs and covers and will return to play at the blues festival itself which takes place between July 27 and 29.
The gig will begin at 7pm. Entry is free and there will be a raffle to raise funds.

Have your say
Please note a slight change to this gig - it is now at the CAPTAIN NELSON on South quay and kicks off at 5pm, not 7pm as previously stated.
Lucy is the real deal. Unpretentious with a warm personality she puts her heart and soul into every song. Her slide playing in full spate every bit as fiery as her red tresses. She'll have you singing, clapping and howling along!
