Festival team gets ready to rock Cockermouth with ‘best line-up yet’

Organisers of this weekend’s Cockermouth Rock Festival believe they have put together the event’s best line-up yet.

The three-day music extravaganza, now in its eighth year, begins tonight at Wellington Farm.

Clint Stamper, festival committee chairman, said: “This is the best line-up we have ever had at Cockrock. Tickets sales have been going really well.”

The weekend weather looks set to be fair, but even if it does rain Clint said: “The field is pretty solid and well grassed over.”

Each day will feature two headline acts, with The Subways and Fun Lovin’ Criminals tonight, and Radio One DJ Zane Lowe and chart-topping Tinchy Strider performing tomorrow.

The festival will be brought to a close on Sunday by Doctor and the Medics and punk icons The Buzzcocks.

The festival will also feature Goldie Lookin’ Chain members Rhys and Eggsy, who will be DJing, festival favourites The Lottery Winners and the Pikey Beatz, as well as dozens of local bands.

The festival has been revamped for 2012 with changes to the site and the reintroduction of day tickets.

A new main stage is in place and the site will also see a larger Green area, a new reggae tent and an expanded session stage.

The campsite will also be revamped and it is hoped there will be more activities and entertainment for youngsters.
