Owner furious after another car hits Workington wall

A Workington man has been left with a gaping six-foot hole in his wall and a £7,000 bill – just a fortnight after he spent £2,000 to repair it.

Have your say

Why should the house owner be out of pocket,as a result of an irresponsible driver?

edd, you are so naive, driving at 60 around that bend is the simplest of things, I have been round it at 60 in qwet weather, I reckon Nigel could go round that bend at 100mph.

The road at Distington is even easier to drive round unless of course you are just one of those drivers who have learnt to passs a test and not how to drive a car.

More of the usual rubbish being spouted here.

The calls for a speed camera are quite amusing, the current speed limit of this road is 60mph, now with the layout of the road even Nigel Mansell would have great difficulty in even attempting that speed around these bends.
Compare this to the road passed the crem at Distington now reduced to 40mph for very many less accidents.
Plenty of scope there for a change in the road layout a sweeping curve across the golf course.

julie, if driving round bends in a raod that wide scares you then you should not be driving.

It is not a dangerous bend in the road it is stupid people who think they can drive a car when in fact they can only steer it and have not got a clue as to what to do should they get into small difficulties due to a bit of rain water.

Theres no way on earth that 6 foot hole shown is going to cost 7k to repair. He's having a laugh.

claiming off the insurance companies is ok, but i think the point here is the amount of times the wall has been demolished by car drivers crashing into it!!

Why does the land owner not claim against the car driver's insurance company? Surely the owner of the wall cannot be left out of pocket due to the car driver's inability to drive correctly.

shud put speed cameras there thats the only solution there not going to listen if u drop the speed limit they will still go over do they not care that theres been deaths on that road it scares me to drive round that corner knowing how many accidents theres been and yea u wud have thought he wud have claimed the cost of repairs and instead of a wall why dont he out something metal round keep the anmals in but less cost

Rumble strips on the approach from BOTH directions would help.

And just on the approach side please, don't just put them across the whole road. What's the point when exiting the hazard?
