Plan for homes on former Cockermouth gas holder site

Plans are in the pipeline to build eight new homes near Cockermouth town centre.

Barry Denham, of Washington Estates Ltd, wants to create the new development on the former gas holder site in New Street.

It is used at present as a compound by the Environment Agency.

The new homes would consist of three three-bedroom and five four-bedroom houses, with a mixture of two and three storeys, which would be the same height as nearby properties.

They would be built in brick with concrete tiled roofs.

The houses would have secured gardens at the back and driveways at the front, opening on to the road.

A new access will be created from Sullart Street, while an existing access off New Street will be restricted to pedestrians, with bollards placed on the road to prevent vehicle use.

All the new houses would be for sale on the open market.
