Plea to lower speed limit through village

A group of people have sent out a desperate plea for action on a danger road in their village.

Have your say

I agree with Liz and yeoman, you could drop the speed limit down to 20 mph but it will not stop people speeding though prospect or Crosby.Hgv's never slow down especially the loging wagons going to iggesund

You can cut accidents by 99% easy, BAN ALL MOTORISED TRANSPORT !! Some Motorists believe that speed limits do not apply to them. Some vehicle drivers have to brake the speed limits to do the work in the time allotted.

The major problem is the HGVs tailgating cars that slow down - A permanent speed camera and large signs would solve the problem

There is a total disregard for speed limits and lack of consideration of others. I AN ALL RIGHT JACK seems to prevail in this country.

Come on then, let's make the entire British road network 30mph. It will certainly solve a lot of problems including road traffic accidents and fuel consumption, and it will bring welcome business to the train and bus networks as a by-product.

Or better still, why not make it so people who don't want to live on a main road aren't allowed to buy houses on main roads. And stop them having children too. That will stop kids hanging about at dangerous bus stops waiting to be hit by a passing car.

Or build another by-pass !!

The people of Thorney in Cambridgeshire on the A47 east of Peterborough know what it takes to get the council to act. It took a little girl trying to cross the road and being killed by a truck to do it. The public outcry resulted in three speed cameras being installed (one at each end AND one in the middle) and an immediate start made on building the bypass that had been pleaded for since the 1930's.

Moral: you have to be a long-time accident blackspot AND a child getting killed to get attention.

Hopefully the solution for all villages is on the horizon and will come with GPS controlled cruise control on all vehicles. Write to your EU MP!

Reducing the speed limit will no resolve the problem. Those who speed will not take any notice of the lower speed limit. E G one day I traveled on the Stainton Bypass at 60MPH and was passed 3 times in that distance.

It's the same further down in Crosby. Some lorries come along that fast they nearly blow you over from side of the road. There's a childrens play park along that stretch as well. I think because it's national speed limit either side of villages some don't bother slowing down through the villages.
