Seaton stitchers have charity exhibition all sewn up

A group of stitchers from Seaton will hold an exhibition of their work at St Paul’s Church Hall on November 17 to raise money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
The Stitch Class and The Embroidery Class will display their quilts, embroidery and patchwork items at the exhibition, which will run from 10.30am to 4pm.
Around 12 members of The Stitch Class have sewn together 24 squares to make a summer porch-themed quilt which will be raffled off with other prizes.
Gill Reid, 52, of Ling Beck Park, who teaches the classes, came up with the idea of holding the fund-raising event five years ago after the hospice cared for her father Arnold Vaughan.
She said: “They looked after my dad and they’re a really great charity so it seemed like a good idea to give something back.
“We had a workshop day in June when we had an assembly line of women sewing together the quilt.
“It’s nice for members to see all their work on display and other people coming to see the exhibition and making comments about their work.
“We had around 200 people at the last event and raised around £800 for the hospice so we’re hoping to top that this year.”
The Stitch Class meets every Monday and Wednesday at the church hall and The Embroidery Class meets every Tuesday at Seaton Library to learn different stitching and embroidery techniques.
Both classes will do demonstrations on the day and there will be stands from The Silver Beaded Needle, of Cockermouth, and Quiltessentials, of Carlisle.
Entry is £2.50.
