Solfest tickets on sale

AS SOLFEST tickets are released for sale, festival-goers are gearing up to see the likes of Supergrass, Sham 69, Alabama 3 and Chas and Dave.
The three-day event, at Tarns, near Silloth will be held between August 22 and 24.
Several acts have already been confirmed for the main, bar and drystone wall stages, with more to follow.

Although originally characterised as Britpop brothers of Blur and Oasis, Supergrass long ago forged their own identity with some of the sharpest hooks and most uplifting melodies this side of the 1960s.
Influenced by Buzzcocks, T Rex, the Jam and The Kinks, Supergrass’s brand of guitar-pop has also been infused by psychedelia.
All six of their albums have made the top 10. The seventh, Diamond Hoo Ha, is out next month.

Most famous for Hurry Up Harry, Sham 69 released their first single,
Roisin Murphy first came to note as part of the electronic music duo Moloko. Her partner in the band was then-boyfriend Mark Brydon.
A remix of Sing It Back, from Moloko’s second album I Am Not A Doctor, was another huge hit around the world.
After the two ended their romantic relationship, Murphy released her debut solo album Ruby Blue, written and produced with Matthew Herbert, in 2005.
Cheeky Londoners Chas & Dave have enjoyed success with songs include Rabbit, he Sideboard Song and Snooker Loopy.
The band have variously had their sound described as a “blend of country, blues and acid house.”
Also on the bill are The Hamsters, Oojami, Whiskey Cats, Nikki Ross, The Bees and Whitehaven man Phil Hazlehurst, who is also a compere for some of the stages.
