HAVE YOUR SAY: Shops fear West Cumbrian drug clinic will damage trade

A plan for a new alcohol and drug clinic in Workington town centre has been met by objections from some shop owners who feel it will drive away customers.

I agree with Rosemary. How closed minded can individuals be? How nice to compare human beings to rats and traffic? And, honestly, will you really be seeing people outside with "drink and needles"? I only wish this type of facility had been available to my brother so that perhaps his tragic death might have been avoided.

I think it's a great idea. Needs to be in town as a lot of the people it will help have easy access to town and wouldn't be able to use it if it was out of town.

I agree completely with Rosemary's sentiments. I can understand the objections raised but the views seem so ill infomed and one-sided. Perhaps the residents of Peter Street could provide their experiences of living in close proximity to the existing facility to provide a more balanced point of view.

Come on give these people a break - not everyone has had the chances in life we have - maybe Richard James could use some of the cash he has made from being the 'luckiest lotto shop in cumbria' to donate towards improving the lives of people less fortunate than him. Get real and realise that just because someone has a drink or drugs problem it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be swigging petrol from a can in the town centre but maybe just that they need halp to get them thro the trials of everyday life. Live and let live.
