TICKETS are now on sale for Workington’s only rock and pop music festival.
Valentine Rock will be held at the town’s Ernest Valentine cricket ground on Saturday, September 25, and will feature more than 15 bands.
Local acts, including With Lights Out, Colt 45, Thir13en, Telf, The Ex-Lepers, Tropical Fruit Disaster, Our Famous Dead and the Two-ers, will play the all-day event, alongside Sick City Club, Jiezuberband and The Lottery Winners.
The festival is organised by the cricket club’s Terry King, of the Brewery, Workington.
He said: “We want to raise the profile of the cricket club, especially after the November floods. It devastated the ground, and we’re without a club house at the moment.
“There’s a vibrant music scene across West Cumbria and we felt, as a community organisation, that we should reflect that.
“The cricket club is all about helping youngsters. We have several youth teams and work hard to develop them on the pitch. This is our way of developing our already strong community links off the pitch.”
Money raised from the event will go to the West Cumberland Lions and the RNLI.
Terry added: “These fantastic voluntary organisations need all the help they can get and the RNLI pulled out all the stops during the floods.”
The event is supported by CN Group website Cumbria Festivals, Derwent & Solway Housing Association and several Workington businesses.
Tickets are £9 for adults, £4 for under-18s and free for accompanied under-10s. They are on sale at Times & Star offices on Oxford Street, Workington, and Senhouse Street, Maryport, and the Whitehaven News office in Queen Street, Whitehaven.
