Top chef to pop up with a few dishes at Taste Cumbria

Innovative chef Simon Rogan will open a pop-up restaurant as part of the Taste Cumbria food festival around Cockermouth next month.
Simon, who holds a Michelin star and runs the L’Enclume restaurant in Cartmel, will host four sittings at Dovenby Hall.
The temporary restaurant will offer a four-course meal, showcasing Simon’s recipes from BBC TV programme the Great British Menu.
His culinary style is ground-breaking. He uses luxury ingredients, market produce, food farmed on the premises of L’Enclume in Cartmel, with delicate flavours of flowers, herbs and other foraged items.
This, coupled with a love for innovative and unusual technique, has informed his cooking.
His food impressed judges sufficiently enough to see three of his dishes reach the final of the BBC2 show, which pitted the best chefs in the country against each other for a course at an Olympic banquet.
Simon won the dessert round with his poached pears, atsina cress snow, sweet cheese ice cream and rosehip syrup.
Diners at the pop-up restaurant will be able to taste his dessert, which will follow his highly rated menu of grilled salad, truffle custard, cheese foam and cobnut crisp, lobster with pickled beetroot and sweet apple and suckling pig with northern mead, vegetables and artichoke.
He is one of several celebrity chefs attending Taste Cumbria, including Simon Rimmer, James Martin and Jay Rayner, on September 29 and September 30.
Over 100 of Cumbria’s best producers, hoteliers and restaurateurs will also be at the festival showing products and demonstrating techniques and recipes.
They will include Paul Currie, of the newly established Lakes Distillery at Dubwath near Cockermouth, Peter Sidwell of Keswick, Nick Lawler of Winder Hall Hotel, Lorton, and chef Ryan Blackburn, of the Cottage in the Wood at Whinlatter.
There will also be workshops, children’s activities, a market from Cockermouth’s twin town of Marvejols, and a beer festival.
