A family-run holiday park near Keswick has been used as the setting for part of a new ITV comedy drama.

Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park was used to shoot scenes for the new Thursday night show Love Life.

More than 60 actors and film crew, including top actor/comedian Alexander Armstrong and Andrea Lowe, were at the park in November for about a week of filming.

David Jackson, 47, one of the partners who run the park, said: “It’s fantastic that we were part of it and great to meet such famous actors.

“The girls who work for us were excited that Alexander was filming here and were so pleased they got to meet him.

“I think we were chosen because the location manager had caravanned with us before and we’d also written into Cumbria Tourism’s media department to be considered as a filming location.”

Mr Jackson said he hoped the airtime given to the Lake District scenery would boost the county’s tourist trade in time for the new holiday season.

He said: “It is a great opportunity for the Lake District and Cumbria to get on the map.

“The story is, of course, fiction but there’s no hiding the reality of the beautiful Lakeland landscape.”

Mr Armstrong is the presenter of BBC 1 quiz show Pointless and Dave’s Big Ask, as well as being half of comedy duo Armstrong and Miller. He also plays a character in the TV adverts for Direct Line insurance and is a regular panellist on shows including Have I Got News For You and QI.

Miss Lowe is best known for playing sidekick DS Annie Cabbot, in ITV series DCI Banks, starring Stephen Tompkinson.

Love Life, written by Lark Rise To Candleford’s Bill Gallagher, focuses on what happens after Joe (Downton Abbey’s Rob James-Collier) goes travelling, only to discover when he returns that his former girlfriend Lucy is pregnant.

It also stars Gregor Fisher, known to millions as Rab C Nesbitt, and it will be broadcast at 9pm on Thursdays on ITV.
